Wazo-provd - Add Codec Implementation

Description

Can you add the codec implementation from wazo-provd in order to add / remove the codecs managed in the phones.

Most important models:

  • Snom

  • Yealink

  • Aastra / Mitel

Proposition first step:

  • add default codecs in model templates: G711A and G711U, G722, G729

    • if admins want other codecs, they need a custom provisioning template

    • Need upgrade notes to warn admins that codecs will be restricted by default

Source problem:
Given phones are behind a VPN (MTU is lower and UDP SIP packets are fragmented)
Given phones accept all codecs (making a longer UDP SIP packet because of longer SDP)
When a phone places a call to B
Then B does not ring

Workaround: Removing codecs from the phone makes sorter UDP SIP packets and makes the call working.
Workaround 2: Use SIP/TCP
